5.0M Earthquake Jolts Bali, BMKG Announces

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake measuring a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted Bali on Friday afternoon, March 31, 2023. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported the quake occurred at 15:28 western Indonesian time (WIB).
Based on the agency’s initial data, the epicenter of the quake was in the sea, at coordinates of 9.67 degrees South Latitude and 115.16 degrees East Longitude, or 97 kilometers southwest of South Kuta and at a depth of 10 kilometers.
In its statement, the agency confirmed that the quake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.
On BMKG’s social media account, many netizens claimed to have felt the shaking. Some of them claimed to have resided in Ubud, Bali. Residents of Sidoarjo in East Java also claimed to have felt the quake.
