Former Tax Official Named Suspect Over a Decade of Kickback Practices

31 March 2023 11:56 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Thursday named Rafael Alun Trisambodo as a suspect of gratification after the former Finance Ministry’s tax office official is believed to have received kickbacks in the form of money for over 12 years starting in 2011.

“Based on the evidence, KPK has raised the status of his investigation into an alleged corruption inquiry as a tax officer in the directorate general of taxation from 2011 up to 2023,” said KPK media handling officer Ali Fikri on March 30.

KPK had also confiscated several of Rafael’s luxury assets and suspects the involvement of a celebrity with the initials “R” in his case.

His suspicious wealth only came under the public spotlight after Rafael’s son Mario Dandy was involved in a criminal case involving a deadly assault against a teenager.

KPK’s director of investigations Asep Guntur Rahayu said investigators confiscated several luxury assets belonging to the former tax official on Thursday, March 30. However, he has not entirely made public what items were under Rafael’s possession.

“We hope people will be patient,” said Asep.
