  • TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) team that arrived in Indonesia several days ago will only assist in the investigation into the shootings in the PT Freeport area in Timika, Papua, last August. National Police chief Gen. Dai Bachtiar made this statement to reporters following a Friday prayer session held in a mosque within the National Police headquarters (HQ) complex in Jakarta on Friday (24/01). They will support our investigation in terms of forensic analysis and information exchange. For example, this includes ballistic tests. We can therefore review any differences, said Bachtiar. According to Bachtiar, the reason the FBI came to Indonesia was because two of those who died in the Timika incident were US citizens. In addition, PT Freeport is a US company that operates in Papua. Bachtiar added that the FBI team could help in questioning any US citizens who had witnessed the incident but had now returned to the US. The entire investigation is still under the coordination of the National Police. As for the Timika case, the National Police, in cooperation with the Indonesian Military (TNI), has already carried some questioning. It is hoped that with the back up of the FBI team, more information on the case will be gathered. (Wahyu MulyonoTempo News Room)
