TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, Pertamina Patra Niaga, on late Sunday evening assures that fuel supplies will not be hampered by the fire that struck one of its oil tankers MT Kristin at the Ampenan Port in Lombok.
The tanker caught fire earlier in the afternoon and was able to be put out at 21:00 (WITA) the same day.
Amidst worries about fuel shortages, company spokesperson Taufiq Kurniawan called for calm and made it clear that fuel supplies for Lombok are safe as the company enacts contingency plans.
"I can assure you that fuel supplies for Lombok through the Ampenan Integrated Terminal and the Sanggar Fuel Terminal, Bali is safe with the current Pertalite supply in Sanggar at 4,200 kiloliters. Meanwhile, in Ampenan, the Pertalite supply is at 3,200 kiloliters," Taufiq elaborates in a written statement on March 26.
Pertamina has also diverted supplies through its other tanker the MT Olivya which has a total payload of 2,500 kiloliters and is currently positioned at the western waters of Bima Regency. The company has also tasked supplies to be transported by land through its Manggis integrated terminal in Bali until the harbor of another fuel tanker, MT Elisabet, that is scheduled to dock on Monday morning.
"Pertamina ensures that the distribution of fuel to Lombok and its surroundings will not be hampered," said Taufiq.
