TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono expects that West Jakarta's Kota Tua (Old Town) area can become an icon to bring Jakarta to the international stage through the momentum offered by the ASEAN Summit.
"As there is an ASEAN summit, the ministerial-level and the heads of state-level (delegates) will visit the Old Town," Hartono stated at the city-level development planning conference at the West Jakarta Mayor's Office on Tuesday.
Hence, he instructed officials of the West Jakarta City Government to supervise the Old Town tourism area in preparation for the ASEAN Summit.
According to Hartono, all related official units should synergize in arranging and maintaining the Kota Tua area.
One of the related units is the Industry, Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUMKM) Office that is in charge of regulating street vendors in the Kota Tua area.
In addition, he said, officials in the local transportation unit must be involved to ensure that the Old Town area does not become a traffic-congested area during the summit delegates' visit.
The Directorate General of Highways (Bina Marga) must play a role in maintaining the conditions of sidewalks and street lighting in Kota Tua, he remarked.
Hartono also instructed the ranks of the Public Order Security (Satpol PP) to actively monitor the order of the historic area.
The acting governor also expects that the local administration will cooperate with related parties in law enforcement to ensure the safety of Kota Tua.
"(The law enforcement apparatus) includes the district attorney, the military district commander, and the local police chief to collaborate in securing the ASEAN Summit," he remarked.
With such readiness, Hartono expressed hope that the Old Town area would be ready to welcome the guests of the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta in September 2023.
