TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Demonstrators gathered in Central Jakarta's Arjuna Wijaya statue – located west of the National Monument (Monas) – to protest against the arrival of the Israel national football team by burning the country's flag.
Hundreds of demonstrators comprised of members from the Islamic Brotherhood Front (FPI) and several other mass organizations comes as a response to the Israeli team’s participation in the U-20 World Cup hosted by Indonesia.
According to Husein, who is the field coordinator of the protest, the rejection is mainly due to Israel’s tension with neighboring Palestine. Husein views that Israel continues to colonize Palestinian people and committed numerous killings.
"Civilians, mothers, and children cannot escape the brutality and savagery committed by Israel’s Zionists," he said.
Husein further called for the Indonesian government to not hurt Palestinians by accepting the Israeli national team to Indonesia because Palestine was one of the countries in the world that acknowledged Indonesia's independence.
