TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - North Jakarta Mayor, Ali Maulana Hakim, wished all Hindus a Happy Nyepi for the Saka New Year 1945 today at Pura Segara, North Jakarta, Sunday, March 19, 2023. He also conveyed a message entrusted by the Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono.
"I want to give a message to the Hindu community in the city of Jakarta for us to work together, create religious tolerance for the safe and peaceful implementation of Nyepi and the holy month of Ramadan in this city," said the mayor.
In the Melasti Ceremony at Segara Temple, Ali represented Heru Budi who was unable to attend today. So he gave a speech representing the Provincial Government of Jakarta.
Apart from the message of tolerance, said Ali, it is hoped that all elements of community will not forget to also preserve the city's environment. He added that the message serves as a reminder for sustainable development in Jakarta.
Hindu leaders were also invited to continue to play a bridging role for each element to maintain harmony in society. So the Nyepi moment is expected to be the motivation (for people) to avoid problems in society relations.
"Use this moment to reflect on starting life again with a pure heart while protecting the Earth with the application of Catur Brata Penyepian," said Ali.
After giving his speech, Ali Maulana, together with the management of the temple and Hindu organizations, then all went to observe a small pier, which is often used as a place for worshipping. The pier is located near the Cilincing fishing village. Ali hoped that the pier will be able to support Hindu worship activities better in the future.
