Flooded Areas in Jakarta Expanded to 18 Neighborhoods

15 March 2023 15:25 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaFloods hit Jakarta today, March 15. Affected areas expanded to 18 neighborhood units (RT) and one road as of 9 a.m. from seven RT and two roads, according to the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).

“At present, one road and 18 RT are flooded,” said Jakarta BPBD Isnawa Adji in a written statement, Wednesday, March 15.

The floods occurred in South Jakarta and East Jakarta. In South Jakarta, seven neighborhoods of Tegal Parang subdistrict and two RT of Jati Padang subdistrict were inundated.

According to Isnawa, the inundation was generated by heavy rainfall since the early hours of Wednesday and the overflow of the Krukut River. Consequently, at least 30 residents of Tegal Parang were evacuated to Al Istiqomah Mosque in the community unit or RW 05.

In East Jakarta, nine RT of Cawang subdistrict were inundated with floodwater ranging from 20 to 120 centimeters.

The flooded roads include Jalan Raya Bogor or the HEK traffic light area, Kramat Jati, with 20 cm high floodwater.

Jakarta BPBD has mobilized personnel to monitor the inundation and coordinated with local agencies, subdistricts, and districts.

“The inundation is targeted to recede rapidly,” said Isnawa.

Jakarta BPBD also appealed to the public to stay alert of potential flooding in the city and reach call center 112 in an emergency.
