TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) chairperson Bambang Soesatyo on Wednesday said the Jakarta Formula E event in 2024 will no longer utilize the race track that hosted the race last year, the Ancol Circuit. He insists on using a true street circuit to host the pure-electric Formula racing series.
“The exact location will be announced at the right moment. What’s sure is that it will not be inside the National Monument (Monas) area. Quite possibly it will be around Sudirman street,” said Bambang in an official statement on March 15.
IMI’s Bambang – who prefers to attend this year’s race by purchasing a ticket rather than attending an invitation – said that this plan has been communicated to Jakarta's acting governor Heru Budi Hartono. The plan comes in line with the city official’s plans to repair the roads in the area.
The Jakarta Formula E race in 2023 will host two race schedules in the championship on June 3 and June 4. Its organizing committee chairperson Ananda Mikola has publicly said that he aims to attract 50,000 spectators to the event which will still be held at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC) in Ancol, North Jakarta.
