BMKG Predicts Dry Season to Arrive in Jakarta Next June

13 March 2023 22:56 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta will experience the dry season in June and experience its peak in August, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has announced.

At present, Jakarta is nearing the end of the rainy season and is currently in the transition season. Therefore, people were warned to remain alert for potential extreme weather such as a short duration of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning.

Head of BMKG’s Climatology Station Class II Banten Apolinaris Samsudin Geru, said that this year’s dry season in Banten and Jakarta provinces will begin at the end of March to the end of June. The dry season will start in the northern region, which includes Serang Regency and northern Serang City.

While South Jakarta, southern part of Central Jakarta, and most of southern and western part of East Jakarta are among the last areas to enter the dry season. Along with them are the southeastern part of Serang Regency, the southern part of Tangerang Regency, and the northeastern part of Lebak Regency.

According to Apolinaris, the start of the 2023 dry season in Banten Province are generally faster than normal. Only one season zone will enter the dry season normally, namely the western part of Lebak and the eastern part of Pandeglang.

"However, [the dry season] in Jakarta will generally come later than normally expected," said Apolinaris in an online press conference on Monday, March 13, 2023.
