TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Central Java's volcano, Mount Merapi, erupted hot clouds on Saturday, March 11, at around 12:12 local time.
"The hot clouds are seemed to head to Bebeng River or KRasak River, the eruption is still ongoing," said the Head of the Yogyakarta Geological Disaster Technology Investigation and Development Center (BPPTKG), Agus Budi Santoso, on Saturday, March 11.
The Yogyakarta BPPTKG asked the people to stay away from the dangerous areas of 7 kilometers off the volcano peak, especially in the direction of the Bebeng and Krasak rivers.
From the video shared by Yogyakarta BPPTKG, the hot clouds emitted from the volcano seemed to be quite high.
Based on the agency's observation earlier today from 00:00 to 06:00, there was an incandescent lava avalanche with a sliding distance of 700 meters to the southwest. Meanwhile, on March 10, incandescent lava avalanches were observed to occur three times with a sliding distance of 1,000 meters to the southwest all day.
The results of Mount Merapi observation in the past week on March 3-9, showed that lava avalanches occurred 19 times heading to the southwest areas (upstream of Boyong River, Bebeng River, and Sat or Putih River) with a sliding distance of 1,700 meters.
The volcanic activities of Mount Merapi are still quite high, such as the effusive eruption and the status is still at alert Level III or Siaga.
