Authority of New Capital Nusantara and Tony Blair Discuss Development Plans

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the new capital city of Nusantara (IKN) authority Bambang Susantono and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair focused on discussing the development of the city that will be built to replace Jakarta as Indonesia’s capital.

"One of IKN’s focuses is to build by paying more attention to maintaining the environment. The new capital city has a roadmap for reforestation," said Bambang in a statement in Jakarta on Friday, March 10, 2023.

Moreover, Bambang said that the IKN authority will act out the orders of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo in terms of strictly abiding by environmental issues in building the region. Bambang also said that construction will respect harmony with local communities and biodiversity that are aboriginal to the region.

Aspects of development that are aimed by the government in middle-term and long-term programs will include the education and cultural sectors, which Bambang mentioned have crucial roles in developing the local economy. 

Bambang hinted at attracting international education institutions to help the development of education there, including cultural-wise in partnership with England's cultural centers. 

"Art and culture are important elements that can bring positive ‘soul’ to a city, which is why we have opened cooperation for development in this aspect since its initiation. Which includes Sir Tony Blair," said Bambang, as cited from Antaranews.
