Bali Governor Asserts Stern Action Against Foreign Tourists Violating Rules

10 March 2023 10:25 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaBali Governor Wayan Koster stated that he will take stern action against foreign nationals who violate local regulations on the Island of the Gods. The regional government has collaborated with the police and the immigration office to identify various violations committed by foreigners.

“Yesterday, I had a meeting with the Kapolda (Regional Police Chief), Kemenkumham (Law and Human Rights Ministry), and all related staff to identify various types of violations committed by foreign nationals in Bali,” said Koster, on Thursday, March 9.

“Then it will be handled in an integrated manner and along with it, strict action will be taken,” he added.

However, Koster stopped short of elaborating on decisive actions to be taken. “Just wait. If it's revealed now, they will run away,” he said.

The Bali Provincial Government has formed a Task Force (Satgas) to oversee foreign and domestic tourists on the island. The task force involves officials from the Bali Provincial Government, the Bali Police, the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), Immigration, and district/city teams throughout Bali.

Lately, the behavior of foreign tourists in Bali has been under the public spotlight. They have often committed a number of violations that worried the local community, such as working illegally on the island and using fake license plates or even certain state license plates when driving.

In addition, the Bali Police have often received many complaints about foreign tourists not wearing helmets while driving and practicing reckless driving.
