TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo stated that the number of people filing their annual tax returns (SPT) has reached 6.6 million as of March 9. The figure increased compared to the previous year.
“The number has increased compared to the previous year which was 5.4 million in the same period. I urge all taxpayers to submit SPT by March 31, 2023,” the President tweeted on his Twitter account, @jokowi, as seen by Tempo on Friday, March 10.
He said state revenue from taxes would be used to boost development, so he hoped that people will report their SPT on time.
To date, he monitored that there are still many people who were lining up to file their SPT directly by visiting the Tax Service Office (KPP), “even though SPT can be done through e-Filing from home.”
Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media Secretariat of the President, Bey Machmudin, explained that the state head planned to submit his SPT in a different way this year. Usually, the submission was done electronically at the Jakarta Merdeka Palace, but this year, he visited KPP Pratama Surakarta last Thursday.
According to Bey, the visit was also aimed at campaigning for the SPT submission which falls every March and monitoring the tax office’s activity.
“President Jokowi also wants to know why there are still people submitting SPT to the tax office, not electronically. It turns out that some have forgotten their passwords or are not sure about the calculations, so they feel the need to ask about tax calculations,” said Bey.
