Bali Police Investigate Rampant Foreigners Riding Vehicles with Fake License Plates

6 March 2023 12:05 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaForeign tourists in Bali are again under the spotlight on social media for riding vehicles with fake license plates. The Traffic Directorate of the Bali Regional Police and the District Police launched the investigations.

Head of Public Relations of the Bali Police, Sr. Comr. Stefanus Satake Bayu Setianto, said his side is tracking four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicle users who installed license plates that do not comply with the regulations, especially those using Russian plates.

“They use vehicle license plates that are not in accordance with the regulations,” said Satake on Sunday, March 5, 2023.

According to him, this step was taken after many reports were filed by the public and officers in the field who often witnessed many foreigners riding vehicles with plates modified according to their wishes without police numbers.

“Until now, four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles using the Russian license plate number are still being pursued and we make sure they will become the target of operations,” said Satake.

Police Take Action Against Fake License Plate Numbers

On Sunday, the Klungkung Police Traffic Unit arrested four two-wheeled vehicles using fake license plates in Nusa Lembongan driven by a number of foreigners and local residents at around 10:00 central Indonesian time (WITA).

The drivers committed serious traffic violations, such as driving a vehicle using fake license plates, not using an SNI helmet, not having a driving license, without identity (passport), and not having proof of vehicle ownership.

“Foreigners who were arrested on Nusa Lembongan came from France and Australia. We have not found the Russians yet so far,” Satake explained.

Patrols

Due to many public reports, the Bali Police will increase patrols, especially in tourist areas, such as Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Tanah Lot, Ubud, and other tourist areas in both Gianyar and Denpasar.

“We, the Bali Regional Police, hope that whoever owns the vehicle with the Russian plate number, has the awareness to immediately replace it with the original plate, and people who know the whereabouts of the vehicles, please report to the nearest police and we will take action against the drivers,” said Satake.
