TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan stated that Commuter Line operator PT KCI’s plan to import used trains has to be carried out immediately.
"We have to do it [import used trains from Japan] in the near future [because] 10 trains [will be retired this year]," said Luhut to reporters at his office in Jakarta on Friday, March 3, 2023.
PT KCI planned to import used trains from Japan to replace old trains that will be retired starting this year.
Luhut continued that the import plan will be discussed again on Monday, March 6, 2023. Luhut hoped that there will be no more mistakes in planning, which lead to importing used trains.
"We used to import used goods in the past, why should we import used goods now? So I said, why can’t we make a plan so that we don't have to import. It may be a little more expensive, but the money will circulate within the country," Luhut underlined.
Luhut also said that the government will ask the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) to conduct an audit. "[To make sure that] the price is good and there will be no price deviations," Luhut concluded.
