TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a weather forecast for Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), the venue of the 2023 World Superbike Championship or WSBK which is slated to be held on March 3-5. It is predicted that the Mandalika Circuit will be hit by moderate to high-intensity rain accompanied by strong winds.
“There is a likelihood of rain on March 3-5 in Mandalika,” said the agency’s forecaster in Lombok, Nur Siti Zulaicha, in a written statement, as quoted from Antara today, March 1.
“Beware of strong winds that may cause tree falling,” Siti added.
BMKG earlier informed that rain will shower NTB in the next ten days, from the end of February until early March. The agency also predicted potential hydrometeorological disasters, such as heavy rainfall, strong winds, landslides, and flooding.
“During the ongoing rain season in NTB, we ask people to stay alert of potential hydrometeorological disasters,” said a forecaster from the agency’s Nusa Tenggara Climatology Station, Cakra Mahasurya.
“People are also warned of potential extreme weather that may disturb daily activities,” Mahasurya explained.
NTB Governor Zulkieflimansyah, however, expressed optimism that the upcoming World Superbike Championship in Mandalika Circuit will attract 50,000 spectators. Thus, the provincial government continued to maintain high public enthusiasm about the international motorcycle championship.
Meanwhile, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno targeted 75,000 spectators in the 2023 WSBK Mandalika, which increased by 20-30 percent from last year’s championship.
