TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Regenerative Forest Business Sub Hub (RFBSH) initiated the Multibusiness Forestry or MUK pilot project.
"We actually want to prove that with this multi-business forestry, the agroforestry runs economically, ecologically, and socially," said Kadin's deputy chairman for environment and forestry Silverius Oscar Unggul in his office in Jakarta on Monday, February 20, 2023.
According to Silverius, the baseline has been made and the research has been carried out so the project must go on.
There will be five pilot projects, including the strengthening of the sustainability of MUK management in productive natural forests, the development of the potential for sustainable management of MUK in non-productive natural forests, and the collaboration on conflict resolution towards sustainable MUK management.
The other two projects are the sustainability of MUK management based on the diversity of forest resources (use of water for bottled drinking water/AMDK) and the sustainability of MUK management for carbon sequestration and storage.
The work plan for January until March 2023 is to develop the MUK piloting model, seek support and endorsement from the government, recruit companies to participate in the pilot project, and develop a monitoring and evaluation system.
"Let's prove that we can really create a good economy, precisely from large forests. This is our challenge too," said Oscar, adding that several companies have started joining the plotting and were committed.
