TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ragunan Zoo management submitted the budget for cages beautification and creating zonation of Rp130 billion to Jakarta Provincial Government for 2023.
"We'll do beautification of cages by revamping the current ones and build zonations," Ragunan Zoo management head unit, Endah Rumiyati, as quoted by Antara on Friday, Feb. 10.
But she said that her side has not set the time for the plan as it cannot be done in a short period of time. Therefore, the management must work together with related parties to consider if the wildlife park must be closed temporarily or not.
"Maybe we can do it partially, so people can still visit Ragunan Zoo," she said.
For that reason, Ragunan Zoo beautification will be conducted in stages considering the large area of around 127 hectares. In addition, the management cannot sacrifice the trees in the park that are hundreds of years old, so further study is needed.
"We have to sort the design that we can use that will not sacrifice the trees. We cannot cut trees carelessly," she said.
Endah did not deny the possible increase in entrance tickets during the beautification process. But until today, the zoo management still implements the regular fares for the visitors.
"So, it's still Rp4,000 for adults and Rp3,000 for children," she informed.
Ragunan Zoo, at present, is home to 2,275 animals and 20,000 trees. The layout is organized and part of it is still being developed toward a modern zoo as the identity of the city of Jakarta.
The birth of a giraffe and an elephant calf adds to the collection of the Ragunan Zoo. It will also carry out an animal exchange with the Bogor Safari Park.
