ICW Questions Jokowi's Awareness of Actual Corruption Eradication Situation

13 February 2023 10:00 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher Kurnia Ramadhana in a discussion on Sunday said the lack of capable antigraft policies also contributes to Indonesia’s declining corruption perception index. He said the current President contributed to this decline as many promises have yet to be realized.

“Throughout President Jokowi’s 8-year leadership, there are no policies that support the eradication of corruption,” said the researcher on February 12.

The President, he said, pledged that he would push for the passing of two laws that are actually crucial in abolishing corruption in the form of asset forfeiture and cash transaction restriction Bills which have been in the possession of the House of Representatives (DPR) since 2012.

To date, the two Bills (RUU) have yet to be passed.

He also quipped about how Jokowi addresses this issue. One of which is during the commemoration of World Anti-Corruption Day, where the President said that the government is constantly supporting efforts to eradicate corruption.

"One and a half months, Jokowi announced it. Our corruption eradication plummeted. It is evident that Jokowi is not aware enough about the real conditions of the country’s corruption eradication," he said.

Previously, Indonesia's corruption perception score dropped four points from 38 in 2021 to 34 in 2022. Transparency International Indonesia Deputy Secretary General Wawan Suyatmiko said on January 31 that the decline in the IPK score was the most drastic since 1995.
