TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairperson Firli Bahuri on Tuesday revealed the reason why the anti-graft commission has yet to arrest four fugitives, with one of them being the long-time fugitive Harun Masiku. He claimed one of the biggest hurdles is the change of identity of the fugitives.
“A legal basis is required to arrest an individual and during an arrest, the person in question has changed their name,” said Bahuri in a press conference at the State Palace on January 7.
The three fugitives apart from Masiku are Ricky Ham Pagawak, Kirana Kotama, and Paulus Tannos.
“This is surely a challenge for us. But we will not give up because we know the process of how they change their identities,” he explained.
KPK also includes 21 identities in their most-wanted list, and from that number, 17 individuals had been arrested. The latest arrest was against corruption suspect Izil Azhar in Banda Aceh on January 24. This leaves four more people who are still on the run.
HM or Harun Masiku is a PDIP politician who is a suspect in the bribery case of the former commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU).
