5.7 M Earthquake Jolts Banten, Sends Tremors to Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake measuring a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale rocked Banten on Tuesday morning, February 7, 2023, at 07:35 western Indonesian time (WIB).
Based on the initial report issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the quake was centered at 7.43 degrees south latitude and 105.88 degrees east longitude or 66 kilometers southeast of Muarabinuangen, Banten, and at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The agency confirmed that it had no potential to trigger a tsunami.
Many residents felt the shaking and swarmed the agency’s social media. They mentioned their locations in Bandung, Sukabumi, and Jakarta.
Tempo in Central Jakarta and a number of colleagues in Greater Jakarta also felt the tremor.
