TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Atnike Nova Sigiro, the chairperson of the National Commission on Human Rights or Komnas HAM, said that she had received three reports of complaints from Lukas Enembe, and that the commission would coordinate with the Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK.
The three reports, Atnike claimed, highlighted the health condition of the inactive governor of Papua while he was under detention due to an alleged bribery case. "They request us to ensure the rights of detainees, in this case, the health condition of Lukas Enembe to be concerned," said Atnike on Friday, February 3, 2023.
Atnike coordinated with the anti-graft body regarding the demands. However, she asserted that Komnas HAM would not interfere in the legal process being handled by the KPK.
“Komnas HAM respects the ongoing legal process regarding alleged corruption which is under the authority of the KPK,” Atnike said in a written statement, adding that the KPK would guarantee the Democratic Party politician’s rights.
"The KPK said that it is paying attention to the health condition of Lukas Enembe and providing health services and access," Atnike said.
Komnas HAM received the complaint and the request for protection from the legal adviser of Lukas Enembe on Thursday, February 2, 2023. The first complaint was submitted on December 19, 2022, by the family, while the second complaint was filed on January 26, 2023, by the Papuan Student Front.
