TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ijtima Ulama Jakarta held by the National Awakening Party (PKB) today, February 2, 2023, issued a number of recommendations for the Jakarta Provincial Government. The ulema meeting, which was opened by the party’s chair Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin, was held as one of the preparations for the 2024 General Election and Regional Election Head or Pilkada.
The spokesperson for the Ijtima Ulama Jakarta, Makmun Soleh, said one of the recommendations was a halal business area in the capital which will support people’s economic development, promote local halal products, and preserve Batavian cultures.
“Ijtima Ulama also called on relevant institutions and stakeholders, especially MUI (Indonesian Ulema Council), ulema, community leaders, NGOs, and members of the press to participate in supporting supervision and education activities, as well as law enforcement in accordance with statutory regulations,” said Soleh in his statement, Tuesday, February 2, 2023.
Another recommendation is demanding the city administration take firm action against a number of luxury restaurants or cafes that do not comply with halal regulations. Soleh claimed his side received reports of complaints from a number of Muslim consumers regarding eateries selling food or beverage products with doubtful halal status.
“Thus, the Ijtima Ulama Jakarta asked the Jakarta Provincial Government to carry out supervision, provide education, and conduct law enforcement against cafe and restaurant entrepreneurs who do not comply with regulations regarding Halal Product Assurance,” said Soleh.
