Bekasi, South Jakarta Among Cities with Slowest Internet Speed in Southeast Asia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s internet speed still lags behind neighboring countries. According to a report by Speedtest Global Index, Bekasi and South Jakarta are among the big cities in Southeast Asia with the slowest internet download speeds.
The report said that the average download speed in Bekasi was 19.8 Mbps (megabits per second) and in South Jakarta 18.44 Mbps. The two cities were globally ranked 127 and 134, respectively. While in Southeast Asia, they were placed 12th and 13th.
Topping the fastest internet speed was two cities in Malaysia, namely Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur. Based on the survey by Speedtest, their average mobile internet speeds were respectively 63.96 Mbps and 44.92 Mbps. Johor Bahru was placed 46th and Kuala Lumpur 61st globally.

- Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam): 41,75 Mbps
- Bangkok (Thailand): 40,57 Mbps
- Hanoi (Vietnam): 39,84 Mbps
- Chonburi (Thailand): 39,4 Mbps
- Manila (Philippines): 33,37 Mbps
- Vientiane (Laos): 29,44 Mbps
- Mandalay (Myanmar): 24,3 Mbps
- Phnom Penh (Cambodia): 20,82 Mbps
Speedtest Global Index compared internet speed data around the world which was updated monthly. This index data was obtained based on data for December 2022 which came from hundreds of millions of tests conducted on more than 10,000 servers in 190 countries.
The survey also revealed that Ar-Rayyan City of Qatar was the city with the fastest internet speed in the world with 185.14 Mbps mobile download speed.
