Sandiaga Uno Pushes Umrah Travel Agencies to Offer Pre and Post-Tour Packages

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno shared tips for hajj and umrah travel business owners which he uploaded on his Instagram, Monday, January 30, 2023.
Indonesia is rich in religious tourism, he emphasized, so this is a potential business for travel agencies. He thus pushed travel business owners to create unique tour packages and promotions.
“I’d like to encourage all hajj and umrah organizers to offer pre-tour and post-tour packages,” he said.
He explained that before leaving for the umrah pilgrimage, the congregation could be given a package for religious tourism in Indonesia.
“Instead of holding umrah and hajj rehearsals in a hotel ballroom, it's better to conduct a rehearsal agenda at various religious tourism destinations in the local area. I’m optimistic that it can attract pilgrims while at the same time promoting the movement of proud to travel in Indonesia dubbed #DiIndonesiaAja,” the minister wrote.
He also cited an example, practicing umrah and hajj rehearsal at the tomb of Sunan Gunung Jati rather than in a hotel ballroom. This endeavor, he said, will be a blessing as it improves the local community's economy and achieve the target of 1.4 billion domestic tourist visits in 2023.
Sandiaga Uno also reported that Saudi Arabia opened up great opportunities. They eliminated the umrah special visa and replaced it via an application. “Saudi is even more innovative. People don’t need anything unless a Saudi ticket to stay in Saudi for 90 days,” he informed.
