TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) planned to resume the operation of the panoramic train in February 2023. The train previously served passengers only during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
When it was first launched on December 24, 2022, the country's first panoramic train was attached to the existing train service named KA Taksaka Tambahan for the Gambir-Yogyakarta route. PT KAI recorded that the train served 1,613 passengers during the 12 days of operation.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that the Panoramic Train received a good response in the community as its average occupancy rate reached up to 85 percent per day.
"I think the number of trains and routes can be added in the future due to the high public interest," said Budi Karya in his statement on Sunday, January 29, 2023.
The next panoramic train which will operate in February was planned to be attached to existing train services of Argo Parahyangan for the Gambir-Bandung route and Argo Wilis for the Bandung-Surabaya Gubeng route.
The ticket fare for the Argo Parahyangan panoramic train is set at Rp350,000, while the Argo Wilis panoramic train is at Rp1,120,000 with a capacity of 38 seats. The tickets will be available for order via KAI Access application, KAI’s website, and other official channels.
