TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT) will conduct an assessment of six stadiums to serve as venues for the U20 World Cup to ensure the safety and security of the event.

"BNPT is committed to support, ready to make (the event) successful because this grand event has become (a matter of) pride for Indonesia," main secretary of BNPT Bangbang Surono noted in a written statement received on Saturday.

A total of six stadiums in Jakarta, Bandung, Solo, Surabaya, Bali, and Palembang will be the venues for the matches that will take place from May 20 to June 11, 2023.

Some 24 countries will participate in the international football match. As the host, Indonesia is striving to give the best it can muster, with security aspects being one among them.

Surono said that to ensure security at each stadium, the agency hosted a meeting with INAFOC, National Football Association, and the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

He noted that the agency will involve various stakeholders to ensure and create a safe and conducive situation throughout the world cup event.

"An assessment of stadium security will be conducted to ensure the safety and security of each venue," he remarked.

Director of protection at BNPT Imam Margono stated that the agency referred to BNPT Regulation Number 3 of 2020 in conducting its task for safety and security.

The regulation elaborated guidelines on the protection of strategic vital infrastructure and public facilities to safeguard from terrorism acts.

"The BNPT will inform others and conduct an assessment at least a month before the (event)," Margono affirmed.
