Ex-Banten Governor Terrorized with Sack Full of Cobras Before Anies Baswedan's Visit

TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - Former governor of Banten Wahidin Halim was terrorized with a sack full of cobras at his house in Pinang, Tangerang City, early Wednesday, January 25, 2023. On the same day, Wahidin was preparing to welcome the visit of former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan. 

“Yesterday morning, snakes were delivered here. This was a political crime. We hope that we are all safe. Everyone is fighting for the country,” he said on Thursday, January 26, 2023. He underlined that the snakes were sent by uncivilized people.

He recalled that around 20 cobras packed in green plastic and wrapped in a yellowish white sack were found at his house in the early hours of Wednesday. Based on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras belonging to Wahidin’s neighbors, a red motorcycle appeared and stopped in front of the back gate of his house.

One of the two men riding the motorbike got off and took the cobras out of the sack. The snakes looked alive as they were moving in transparent green plastic bags.

On Wednesday, Anies was scheduled to attend an event with the people of Tangerang at Wahidin’s residence. The former governor of Jakarta asked them to pray for him so he could carry out his duties well and that his journey would be eased and blessed.

Anies Baswedan, however, did not detail the journey in question. Yet as widely known, the NasDem Party (the National Democratic Party) had declared support for endorsing him as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Wahidin Halim has already joined the party founded by Surya Paloh.
