4.4M Earthquake Jolts West Java's Cianjur; Shaking Reaches Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter Scale jolted Cianjur, West Java in the early hours of today, January 24, 2023, or at 02:45 Jakarta time.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed in its initial report that the epicenter of the quake was at 6.81 degrees south latitude and 107.04 degrees east longitude or 11 kilometers northwest of Cianjur Regency at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Many residents were awakened as the shaking was felt quite strong. They notified the agency on its social media, stating they are residents of Sukabumi. Some of them claimed to be afraid to return to sleep.
