PLN Signs Deal to Supply 150 MVA for Antam Smelter

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned electricity company PT PLN will supply electricity to a ferronickel smelter facility owned by fellow SOE Aneka Tambang (IDX: ANTM) or Antam. The amount of provided electricity will be 150 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA).
A power purchase agreement was signed by Antam and PLN's Main Distribution Unit for South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and West Sulawesi (UID Sulselrabar).
"Previously, PLN had worked with Antam in East Halmahera. PLN is ready to meet the electricity needs of the smelter industrial sector," PLN executive VP for sales and enterprise customer service Abdul Farid through an official statement on Monday, January 23, 2023.
Farid said that the smelter is one of Indonesia's strategic projects to support mineral downstreaming. Therefore, PLN is committed to meeting electricity needs and providing the best service for the smelter industry.
"The smelter industry requires a huge amount of electricity. PLN is ready to provide reliable, qualified electricity supply at a competitive price," said Farid.
Antam's president director Niko Kanter said that synergy between SOEs is an important strategy in downstreaming the mineral industry. As a state-owned miner, he said, Antam continues to make continuous improvements in technology, operational efficiency and decarbonization.
