TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police's special counterterrorism unit Densus 88 managed to catch three suspected terrorists in three regions on Friday, January 20, 2023.
Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, the Head of the Public Information Bureau of the Public Relations Division at the National Police, confirmed that the arrest was carried out on Friday, January 20, 2023.
"[One of] the suspects [who is identified as] AS is from the network of the Indonesian Islamic State or NII," Ramadhan said in his statement.
The three suspects were identified as AS, ARH, and SN. The police squad arrested AS in North Jakarta, ARH in South Jakarta, and SN in South Tangerang.
ARH and SN were recorded on the police's people wanted list or DPO when they were arrested back in March 2021. The two were suspected of being part of a mass organization that has been banned by the Indonesian government.
"They planned to create bombs and use them in acts of terror, but their plans were thwarted in 2021," Ramadhan explained.
At present, the police are still exploring information from the three suspected terrorists.
