TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is targeting the completion of flood control 942 project, inaugurated by Anies Baswedan back in 2022. The project includes constructing nine polders, and four reservoirs, and increasing the capacity of two rivers by March-April 2023.
"God willing [Insyaallah], around March-April, the project will be completed and ready to be inaugurated," said the Assistant for Jakarta Development and Environment Afan Adriansyah Idris in Kembangan, West Jakarta on Thursday, January 19, 2023, as quoted from Antara.
With the completion of the project, it is hoped to be able to reduce flooding at several point locations in the capital city which often occurred during extreme weather.
The project on flood control is established across five areas in Jakarta.
The flood control infrastructure project utilizes a multi-year budget allocated by the Pemprov from the central government loan of up to Rp1 trillion through the National Economic Recovery (PEN) program in 2021.
The location of the nine polders within the program is spread in Muara Angke, Teluk Gong, Mangga Dua, Kelapa Gading, Pulomas, Marunda JGC, Green Garden, Kamal, and Tipala-Adhyaksa Pumps.
The locations of the four reservoirs or water retention areas are established in Pondok Ranggon, Embung Wirajasa, Brigif, and Lebak Bulus.
Meanwhile, the locations for increasing the capacity of the two rivers or streams are spread across Kali Besar Sodetan, Museum Bahari Canal and Ciliwung Hilir River, Pasar Baru area, Central Jakarta.
In addition to project 942, two new dams in Ciawi and Sukamahi in Bogor Regency, are also expected to reduce flooding in Jakarta.
President Joko Widodo previously inaugurated both of the dry dam projects on December 23, 2022.
The Head of State said that the dams were targeted to reduce flooding in Jakarta by around 30.6 percent, which will free 12 urban villages from occasional flooding.
The Ciawi dry dam construction began in 2016 and can store approximately 6.05 million cubic meters of water. Meanwhile, the Sukamahi Dam has a capacity of 1.7 million cubic meters.
