TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Investment Bahlil Lahadalia in a discussion panel at the World Economic Forum (WEC) on Wednesday invited global investors to take part in Indonesia’s downstream ecosystem. The Minister asserted that the Indonesian government will remain focused on creating added value through downstream-oriented energy and green industry.
In the event held in Davos, Swiss, the Minister explained in a statement on Thursday "Indonesia will be the only country in Southeast Asia that focuses on carrying out the value-added process in its own country. This is all running, this has started. We invite investors to come with technology, capital, and a portion of the market. We are assigned by President Jokowi to provide guarantees for smoothening permits for investors.”
Citing Antaranews, Bahlil explained the direction of Indonesia's downstream investment strategy is not exclusively for nickel resources but there are eight priority sectors to encourage downstream, namely minerals, coal, oil, natural gas, plantations, marine, fisheries, and forestry with 21 of their derivative commodities.
This policy has been implemented, said Bahlil, and it is planned that the investment value will reach US$545.3 billion by 2035.
The Investment Minister admitted that Indonesia's struggle to initiate downstream operations is met with opposition from the rest of the world. However, this downstream is a middle way for Indonesia to elevate from a developing country to a developed country. He said that Indonesia and other developing countries are aiming to climb the same ladder as developed countries.
