TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK searched the building of the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) in Central Jakarta today, January 17, 2023. Tempo observed that a number of people donning vests entered the council members' office.
“It is true that there are searches related to collecting evidence of alleged corruption in land acquisition in Pulo Gebang (East Jakarta),” said the KPK’s head of media affairs, Ali Fikri, in a written statement, Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
Investigators from the anti-graft body arrived at the city council’s building in the afternoon after the call to Asr prayer and then rushed into the building.
Ali said his side will disclose today's search. “We will report the progress later.”
Media crews were not allowed to enter the building. Security guards secured the area and did not allow journalists to approach the location being probed.
In response to the search, Jakarta DPRD Chairman Prasetyo Edi Marsudi said he supported KPK in investigating an alleged corruption case. “As a DPRD chairman, I fully support the investigation process carried out by the KPK,” he said in his written statement, Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
Prasetyo claimed he did not know the case being investigated by the KPK. However, he asserted that people could see that the budgeting process at the Jakarta DPRD was conducted transparently.
