TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Transportation Agency positively welcomes the city’s plan to impose electronic road pricing (ERP) on major streets as this strategy can holistically break traffic congestion. Head of the agency Syafrin Liputo on Tuesday explained that the ERP can extend the role of the three-in-one policy intended to spread even traffic.
Another policy the city has imposed, but considered to be ineffective, is the odd-even number plates that regulate when a vehicle is allowed to enter certain streets based on their number plates accordingly to the date of the day.
"Personal vehicle ownership and regional capabilities add to the very limited length of the road. Therefore, we must then make a holistic (overall) effort," said Syafrin on Tuesday, Antaranews reported. "The next traffic control is electronic and the principle of electronic use is based on conjunction prices,"
The regulation of electronic road pricing is reportedly still being discussed by the Regional Regulation Formation Agency (Bapemperda) since last year. The ERP tariff itself has also not been determined.
