Bali's Poverty Rate Lowest Among Provinces: BPS

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The percentage of poverty in Bali Province reached 4.53 percent in September 2022, the lowest level among provinces, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported on Monday.

Bali was among the top five provinces with a low percentage of poor in September 2022, Head of the Social Statistics Team of BPS’ Bali Representative Office Dedi Cahyono said in Denpasar.

The other provinces were South Kalimantan (4.61 percent), Bangka Belitung (4.61 percent), Jakarta (4.61 percent), and Central Kalimantan (5.22 percent).

During the same period, the percentage of poor in the province was also much lower than the national average of 9.57 percent.

"In the previous period (March 2022), the percentage of poverty in Bali, which was 4.57 percent, was recorded as the third lowest in national ranking," Cahyono informed.

The percentage of poor in Bali in September 2022 was recorded to have decreased by 0.04 percentage points compared to March 2022 and declined 0.19 percent compared to September 2021.

According to BPS data, there were 205,360 poor in Bali in September 2022, a decrease of 320 compared to March 2022 and a decline of 6,100 compared to September 2021.

He said that during that period, the percentage of urban poor was recorded at 4.12 percent, down 0.11 percentage points from 4.23 percent in March 2022.

Meanwhile, the percentage of rural poor in September 2022 was recorded at 5.58 percent, up 0.19 percentage points from 5.39 percent in March 2022.

The number of poor in the province's urban areas decreased by 2,240 from 136,060 in March 2022 to 133,820 in September 2022.

The agency's records showed that the number of poor people in rural areas in Bali Province increased by 1,930 from 69,620 in March 2022 to 71,550 in September 2022.

The poverty line in Bali in September 2022 was recorded at Rp515,037 per capita per month, comprising a Food Poverty Line of Rp357,640 or 69.44 percent and a Non-Food Poverty Line of Rp157,398 or 30.56 percent.

As of September 2022, there was an average of 4.29 members in each poor household. The poverty line for poor households averaged Rp2,209,509 per household per month.
