TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency Syafrin Liputo explained that the regulation governing Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) is still in the discussion stage. Under the policy, vehicle owners are obliged to pay fees for entering certain roads.
The agency also planned to propose that motorcycles should be included in the list of vehicles affected by the policy. "Two wheels are included in our proposal," said Syafrin when met at the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) on Monday, January 16, 2023.
Syafrin believed that this is necessary given the increasing number of motorized vehicle users in the capital. "Therefore, the next traffic control is electronic ones and the principle of such electronic use is based on conjunction prices."
According to Syafrin, the policy draft noted that a number of vehicles will be exempted from ERP charges, namely electric bicycles, diplomatic vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, hearses, yellow license plate vehicles, as well as operational vehicles for government agencies and Military (TNI), National Police (Polri) with official license plates (not black).
This means online motorcycle taxis or online ojek will also be subjected to ERP charges. "The regulation is in accordance with the law. The exception is, of course, public transportation with yellow plates," said Syafrin.
Syafrin further asserted that ERP policy is crucial in a bid to create Jakarta as a sustainable city. "Of course, a collective understanding is needed," he concluded.
