TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian badminton players Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Rian Arianto achieved victory at the beginning of the year by winning the 2023 Malaysia Open on Sunday, January 15, 2023. The Indonesian Men's Double won in a three-game match with a score of 21-18, 18-21, and 21-13 against Liang Wei Kang / Wang Chang from China at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur.

The victory gave Fajar / Rian their first taste of the BWF (Badminton World Federation) World Tour Super 1000 title in their career. The world's number one men's doubles also said they were pleased and satisfied with the inaugural Malaysia Open title earlier this year.

"First of all, we are grateful to win our first Super 1000 title. Hopefully, this title could bring motivation for the next tournament," said Fajar as quoted from PBSI.

Fajar admitted that playing casually in the third game, especially after the 60-second interval, was the key to victory against China. In addition, according to him, enthusiasm and motivation cannot be separated from the role of the fans who always supported their career. "Thank you to all fans," Fajar added.

"They gave us the motivation to boost our enthusiasm from the beginning until now. Without them, we might play with a lack of confidence. Thank you," said Fajar.

After the 2023 Malaysia Open, the journey for Fajar / Rian would continue to the 2023 India Open which is scheduled for January 17 to 22. According to their statement, their victory in Malaysia motivates them to be more prepared by maintaining physical and mental fitness.

"Today, we are the winner (of the Malaysia Open), but tomorrow that title won't last anymore as there are still many matches ahead (India Open)," said Rian. "So, we have to try to focus and enjoy, more importantly, maintain physical and mental condition."

The 2023 India Open tournament will be held on January 17 to 22, 2023. Fajar / Rian will aim for their second title this year at the BWF World Tour Super 750 badminton tournament.
