TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Democratic Party chairperson Agus “AHY” Harimurti Yudhoyono on Thursday asserted the political party’s stand in rejecting the government’s regulation in lieu of law (Perpu) on job creation. Agus maintained that there must be an emergency or critical situation that justifies the Perpu’s issuance, which there are none, according to him.
“A Perpu should only be used for emergency and compelling situations. Even though there was no situation today that felt precarious and is pressing," said the son of former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on January 12.
AHY then told that the Democratic Party had rejected the Job Creation Law since its initiation and recalled the moment it was passed in a House Plenary in early October 2020, the Democrat Party legislators refused it by performing a “walkout.”
He insists that the Job Creation Act is essentially flawed, both formally and materially. "Is it in accordance with the Pancasila economic concept or is it very capitalistic and in line with neoliberalism?" he added.
Therefore, said AHY, it is natural that many elements of society rejected the issuance of the Job Creation Perpu. He also understands if a large portion of people deems the Perpu as a constitutional betrayal.
President Joko Widodo or Jokowi responded casually to the polemic that arose over the issuance of the Job Creation Perpu on Monday, January 2.
"Yes, it's normal. In every policy, every time a regulation is issued, there are pros and cons. But we can explain everything," he said during a visit to Tanah Abang Market, Jakarta on Monday.
