TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Semuel A Pangerapan, Director General of Informatics Applications at the Communication and Informatics Ministry, reminded the public to improve their digital skills and literacy. According to Semuel, digital literacy is an important tool in protecting personal data and pushing digital transformation.
"With digital literacy, people can understand how the digital space works. The ministry sees the need for collaboration between the government and the private sector to give people an understanding about protecting personal data," Semuel said in a written statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 11.
The government, Semuel said, seeks to create safe and healthy digital spaces and ecosystems through synergy and collaboration with various stakeholders. "Especially because digital literacy is important to help increase people's understanding of how crucial personal data protection and digital transformation are," he said.
Baba Pramudia Ruzuar, head of corporate engagement, media relations, and corporate sustainability at electronics certificates organizer Privy, said his company encourages increased digital literacy in society as more and more individual activities are related to the use of digital applications.
He emphasized the importance of optimally increasing internet use and skills, and at the same time improving people's ability to filter information and use new tech such as digital signatures.
Baba said the government's call for the public to be more aware of protecting their personal information from possible leaks is a very good effort, especially with the enactment of the Personal Data Protection Act (PDP Law).
