TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police have arrested two teenagers aged 17 and 14 in Makassar, South Sulawesi, who were responsible for the kidnapping and murder of a 10-year-old (MFS) child. The victim was found wrapped inside a plastic bag on Tuesday morning of January 10, 2023.
Tragically, the reason the teens committed the heinous crime was because of financial reasons. They claim to be tempted by the large sum of money from selling the victim’s organs to a foreign online website.
Both teens were arrested less than 24 hours after the body of the child was discovered under a bridge located in the region.
The kidnapping was first reported by the victim’s parents and was followed up by police examining CCTV footage from the location where the child first went missing.
According to the Makassar Police Chief, Grand Commissioner Budhi Haryanto said that the suspects claim they were lured by an advertisement online that offered huge sums of money from selling human organs. He also said the initial investigation does not indicate any organ extraction crime syndicate.
"This is about organ trade. From there, the suspect was influenced. They wanted to be rich, to own property, this is where the suspects’ intention to commit murder arose. The plan was for them to sell the organs of the child who was killed," said Budhi.
The suspects will be charged under Article 340 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning premeditated murder and the Child Protection Act.
