TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The coach for the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-Yong argued that a lack of adaptation and concentration was the reason his team lost to Vietnam with a score of 0-2 in the second leg match of the 2022 AFF Cup semifinal at My Dinh National Stadium, Hanoi, Monday, January 9, 2023.
"In the first goal, our goalkeeper (Nadeo Argawinata) made a mistake in timing when he caught the ball. That's because the players, as a whole, haven't fully adapted to the pitch," said Shin Tae-Yong in a post-match press conference.
Vietnam first scored a goal during the third minute of the match. At that time, Vietnam striker Nguyen Tien Linh managed to catch Do Hung Dung's long ball. Nadeo Argawinata attempted to block the ball by advancing from his safe spot, but Tien Linh's kick came much quicker.
According to Shin, the goal was well executed by Tien Linh. Apart from the lack of adaptation, the quality of the field also allowed Vietnam to have an advantage in making a goal.
"The condition of the stadium field is very different from the field in Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, which is perfect. The condition of the My Dinh Stadium for me was better at the 2021 SEA Games. Currently, it isn't like it used to be. Still, the Vietnam team is already well adapted to the field," said Shin.
Indonesian Team Does Not Know Its Opponent Well
As for Vietnam's second goal, which was scored by Nguyen Tien Linh in the 47th minute or less than two minutes into the second half, Shin admitted that it was due to the lack of concentration of his team.
Jordi Amat and his group, as stated by Shin Tae-Yong, were not able to guard the opponent properly. "Their concentration has decreased. Even though I always remind the team to be careful, especially in the first five minutes and the last five minutes of the match," said Shin.
For the Indonesian national team, the loss made them unable to fulfil PSSI's target of winning the 2022 AFF Cup, for now. Vietnam has qualified for the final and will be competing with the winner, either Malaysia or Thailand will face Vietnam.
Thailand vs Malaysia semi-final second leg match was held on Tuesday, January 10, at the Thammasat Stadium, Rangsit, Thailand. In the first leg match in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Thailand lost 0-1.
