TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta was scheduled to host two races of this year’s Formula E, according to the 9th season racing calendar released by Formula E Operation via fiaformulae.com.
Jakpro confirmed in its press release on Saturday, January 7, 2023, that the Indonesian capital will hold the international electric motor race on June 3 and 4, 2023 in Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit, North Jakarta
As the organizer, Jakpro stated that preparations for the 2023 Jakarta E-Prix have been carried out since the end of 2022 by coordinating with Formula E Operation (FEO), the global organizer of electric car racing.
Jakpro's VP Corporate Secretary, Syachrial Syarif, said the organizing committee will soon be announced to the public. Jakpro has received various inputs from stakeholders and the public to improve and make this year’s race better than the debut one in June last year.
Jakpro was still studying the format and concept for this year’s event, including getting sponsors. Syachrial hoped for support from all parties so that the event which carries the theme of a net zero-emission race could run successfully.
Based on data from the Federation Internationale de I'Automobile (FIA) report, the 2022 Jakarta E-Prix managed to attract more than 13.4 million viewers on live TV broadcasts, the biggest-ever live audience of a race from a single national market in the electric car race history.
Videos of the action uploaded on YouTube have thus far gained over 1.5 million views and on social media up to over 22.6 million views, beating the total achievement of the 8th season.
“The Jakarta E-Prix made history twice as our first race in Indonesia and for attracting the biggest live audience from a single market,” as quoted on the official FIA Formula E website on Friday, June 17, 2022.
