TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Many new travel trends have occurred during 2022, and one of them is that many people were making spontaneous travel bookings.

OYO's annual travel report titled "OYO Travelopedia Indonesia 2022" recorded that more than 2.4 million bookings were made one day before the trip or on the day of the trip. The number increased by about 14 percent compared to the previous year.

This trend is predicted to help in accelerating the recovery of the tourism sector. "The results of OYO Travelopedia 2022 prove the improvement in the Indonesia tourism industry," said Global CBO & CEO of Southeast Asia and Middle East of OYO Ankit Tandon in his statement on Thursday, January 5, 2023.

OYO also recorded an increase in demand for up to 82,000 rooms on New Year's Eve, a number 58 percent higher compared to the previous year. Some of the main destinations are Bali, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, and Semarang.

Increasing business travel

Business travel has also increased in Indonesia since a more relaxed travel restriction policy was implemented in May 2022. This is indicated by the demand for accommodation by corporate or large-scale guests growing by 274 percent compared to the previous year.

OYO Indonesia's booking data shows that there are five cities most frequently visited by the public for business trips, namely Jakarta, Tangerang, Surabaya, Bekasi, and Medan.

This increase is also allegedly influenced by the provision of mid-premium and flagship accommodation scales from OYO which provides a wide selection of quality lodging properties to accommodate business travel requests.

Demand in Religious tourism travel

With improvements on various lines, OYO continues to report that leisure travel remains the biggest push on growth, which is around 114 percent compared to the previous year. Cities visited by tourists include Bandung, Bali, Yogyakarta, Malang, and Lampung.

An interesting finding is that spiritual and cultural tourism destination provide a strong interest among travelers. Some of the locations sought by tourists are the Istiqlal Mosque and Cathedral Church in Jakarta, a tourist village in Bandung, Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple and Ratu Boko Temple in Yogyakarta, Maria Annai Velangkanni Temple, Shri Mariamman Temple in Medan, and Besakih Temple, Tanah Lot Temple and Uluwatu Temple in Bali.

OYO reported an increase in people's preferences for travel starting during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday period in May 2022, with recorded growth in OYO accommodation bookings of up to 90 percent compared to the previous year. Afterwards, on the day of Mawlid in October 2022, there was a surge in requests for accommodation to more than 25,000 bookings.
