Floods in 28 Jakarta Neighborhoods Finally Receded before Midnight

5 January 2023 11:13 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said that the floods that submerged parts of the capital city had receded on Wednesday night. In 28 neighborhood units or RT, the flooding receded around 11:00 pm on Wednesday, January 4.

BPBD official Michael Sitanggang said that those neighborhoods are currently in safe condition. "[The flood] has receded since 11 o'clock last night," he told Tempo on Thursday morning, January 5.

Michael also said that most of the residents remained in their homes when the flood occurred on Thursday afternoon.

He said that the DPBD would keep monitoring the neighborhoods as today's weather forecast said Jakarta would still be showered by moderate to heavy rain.

On Wednesday, 28 RT and three sections of Jakarta's roads were submerged due to almost non-stop rain with varying intensities.

The water level was between 35 and 100 centimeters. Inundated neighborhoods are located mostly in South Jakarta (23 RTs) including Cipulir, Gunung, Kramat Pela, Kuningan Barat, Pela Mampang, and Duren Tiga.
