TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The enforcement of strict health protocols and screenings would remain at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, despite the end of the public activities restrictions (PPKM) policy, stated the airport's Class I Port Health Office (KKP).

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport's KKP Head  Naning Nugrahini  affirmed that the airport authority would continue to enforce health protocols and screenings to anticipate the transmission of the COVID-19 BF.7 variant to Indonesia.

"The airport authority has been attentive to the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases caused by the BF.7 variant in China, Belgium, the United States, and Japan," Nugrahini stated on Friday.

Relevant regulations from the COVID-19 Handling Task Force would be observed in enforcing strict health protocols and screenings at the airport, she affirmed.

She said her office would notify all airlines serving passengers to and from the airport regarding the enforced health protocols.

"We will take preventive measures if we detect passengers with symptoms consistent with the new variant of COVID-19," Nugrahini affirmed.

The office head remarked that if any passenger is detected with COVID-19 symptoms, the health authority will direct them to the airport clinic for health checks. The passenger would undergo COVID-19 testing if the symptoms are consistent with COVID-19-positive cases, she added.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), on Friday (December 30), announced an end to the public activity restrictions (PPKM) policy that was enforced to control COVID-19 transmission in Indonesia.

"Considering our (COVID-19) numbers, today, the government has decided to revoke the PPKM policy as regulated in the Home Affairs Ministry’s Regulations No. 50 and 51 of 2022," he stated at the Merdeka Palace here on Friday.

The revocation of the PPKM policy means there will be no more restrictions on public activities and mobility, he remarked.

"However, I ask all people and the nation to remain careful and vigilant," President Jokowi remarked.
