TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police will follow up on the recent revocation of the Public Activity Restriction (PPKM) policy by preparing plans to anticipate the gathering of masses during new years eve.
Chief of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Dedi Prasetyo said that a detailed plan must be prepared by the Police in all regions. "To secure the crowds in crowded areas and celebration of the new year, there have been instructions from the Police Headquarter," Dedi said on Friday, December 30, 2022.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially revoked the PPKM policy previously regulated in the Ministry of Home Affairs Instruction No. 50 and No. 51 of 2022. The revocation eliminates any restriction on crowds and the gathering of masses.
With the absence of restrictions, the National Police will carry out anticipative measures to ensure the safety and comfort of people celebrating new years eve.
"For crowd security in crowd centers and celebration of new years eve the Police have been instructed to asses and focus on the safety and security of the crowd," Dedi said.
Based on data gathered from the Lilin Operation (Candle Operation) of 2022, there has been an increase in public enthusiasm to celebrate new years eve in several regions.
A possible spike in the number of people celebrating new years eve may occur in Bandung, Bogor, such as in Puncak and Lembang.
In addition, with respect to the ongoing bad weather, the Police have prepared a contingency task force to deal with weather-related matters during new years eve.
The contingency task force will comprise of members of the Search and Rescue team of the Sea and Air (Polairud) corps, the Mobile Brigade, and the K-9 Detachment.
