TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) plans to summon Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, in relation to the government's plan to apply Commuter Line (KRL) ticket fares for the rich and the poor. DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said that the Ministry of Transportation must explain the plan.
"We need clarification, what was conveyed by the Minister of Transportation was just a glimpse," said Dasco at the Nusantara III building in the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta on Thursday, December 29, 2022.
The Ministry of Transportation intends to alter the KRL fare in 2023. The fare, which commonly costs about Rp3,000 to Rp5,000, is about to be adjusted according to the criteria of the passenger.
The DPR, said Dasco, would inquire about the government's plan to differentiate the facilities in connection with various tariffs. "Because if the facilities are different, the fare will be different. If the different ones are a bit more expensive, we will ask later. The technical commission will try to question the minister after we recess," Dasco said.
Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, previously said that the government would issue a new card to differentiate KRL passenger profiles, including the application of ticket prices. The KRL ticket prices, Budi said, would be raised specifically for people whose economies are classified as financially capable.
The Director General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation Risal Wasal, explained that passengers in the middle/upper-class category will pay according to the KRL price which reaches up to Rp10,000 to Rp15,000.
However, the Ministry of Transportation is still considering the data that is going to be the basis for differentiating between passengers. For example, data from the Ministry of Home Affairs or Social Welfare Integrated Data (DTKS) of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
