AFF Cup; Jakarta Police Investigate Thailand Team Bus Incident

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police Spokesperson Senior Commissioner Endra Zulpan confirmed the unfortunate news about the bus that transported the Thailand national football team for the AFF Cup that was thrown at by alleged fans outside of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) stadium in Jakarta.
According to initial reports, and the plethora of videos across social media, the incident happened before Thailand faced the Indonesian national team in the AFF Cup today. Police are currently hunting down the perpetrator.
“We are looking into who committed the act,” said the police spokesperson to journalists on December 29.
However, he said that the incident was not an attack “It wasn’t an attack, but the throwing did take place,” he confirmed.

According to the Police Chief’s operations assistant Insp. Gen. Agung Setya, there are 1,980 police personnel mobilized to secure the AFF Cup 2022, alongside the safeguarding by National Armed Forces (TNI), Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), firefighters, and medical workers.
Security outside of the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, he elaborated, is guarded by police personnel up until the ‘Zone 1’ area which includes the football field itself, fan tribunes, and entrance doors.
